State Aid in Transport

on 1 December 2016 09:00-17:00

Venue: Hotel Crowne Plaza Brussels - Rue Gineste 3 , 1210 Brussels

All Member States plan to invest ESIF in transport projects related to infrastructure, rolling stock or urban transport systems. These investments need to be compatible with the internal market rules and should not distort competition. However, state aid issues are frequently raised by the managing authorities as a problem for assessing if transport projects are affected by state aid and how to deal with it.

Against this background, the European Commission has taken the initiative to assist colleagues from national authorities on state aid issues when preparing ESIF-supported programmes and projects. As a practical contribution, the European Commission services (DG Regional and Urban Policy and DG Competition) organised a seminar on State aid in transport on 1 December 2016 in Brussels.

The seminar was dedicated to practitioners involved in management of the European Structural Investment Funds with the aim to provide them with concrete and practical examples on how to deal with State aid in transport projects. The seminar was interactive and hands-on, dealing with concrete cases and exchanging good practices and lessons learnt in order to provide pragmatic ideas and solutions.
